Respected The Woodlands TMD Dentist for TMJ Symptoms Treatment

If you are constantly bothered by a sore jaw, you may be suffering from temporomandibular joint disorder. TMJ symptoms can include a clicking jaw, a popping sound when you chew or speak, and a sore jaw when you first wake.

The Woodlands TMJ symptoms dentist Anderson, D.D.S., can help you get started on a short-term and long-term plan to alleviate much of the pain and discomfort you're experiencing. We also provide cosmetic dentistry, dental implants and braces.

But what causes TMJ disorder? Some contributing factors may include injuries to the jaw area, certain forms of arthritis, low-level infections and certain dental procedures. Untreated dental problems (crooked teeth, gum disease) can also lead to TMJ symptoms. At Ernie Anderson DDS we're committed to listening to you and working with you to develop a plan to treat your jaw discomfort.

Dr. Anderson will develop a treatment plan that's right for you, which may include restoration of certain teeth that may be contributing to the problem, attention to proper gum maintenance, pain relief, and a concerted effort to identify the underlying causes of your TMJ symptoms. Many of our The Woodlands patients have discovered that relief can be obtained from simple changes in their eating and sleeping habits, although more advanced cases may require surgery.

If you're looking for The Woodlands TMD symptoms dentistry, call Dr. Ernie Anderson today at (281) 205-9162. Or fill out our online form for easy scheduling. At Ernie Anderson DDS, we have several payment options and we're available when it's convenient for you.

Selecting a Toothbrush

When it comes to basic dental care, Dr. Anderson will tell you that nothing tops brushing. If you choose to use a manual toothbrush, be sure that it is small enough to reach your entire mouth easily. Also, bristles that are too firm can cause your gums to bleed. Those who prefer something a bit more convenient and comfortable might consider an electric toothbrush. Be sure the head is soft and the bristles move in a back-and-forth motion.

If you have questions about your toothbrush, call us at (281) 205-9162 and we’ll be pleased to offer recommendations.

Dental Decay & Sealants

Dr. Anderson will tell you that regular brushing and flossing lowers the chance of your children developing cavities. However, sometimes good habits alone aren't enough. The most decay-prone areas of teeth are the grooves and depressions on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These vulnerable areas require further preventive care. To protect kids' teeth from decay, a plastic-like coating called a sealant should be painted on the chewing surfaces of all the back teeth.

It's a simple process that's extremely effective: studies have shown that sealants can reduce tooth decay by as much as 90% to 100%. Please call Ernie Anderson DDS at (281) 205-9162 with any questions you may have about the benefits of using a sealant in preventing dental decay.

How Does Toothpaste Work?

Tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP) in toothpaste removes calcium and magnesium from the saliva so they can't form tartar on your teeth. Some toothpastes contain potassium nitrate to build protection against the pain of sensitive teeth. Baking soda adds foam and scouring ability and can fight acid-loving bacteria.

Peroxide toothpastes not only lighten the teeth but also kill germs. Finally, sweeteners and flavorings are added to mask the taste so that you'll use it. Call Ernie Anderson DDS at (281) 205-9162 and we’ll be happy to recommend a toothpaste that’s right for you.
